How do I paint Window frames?

How do I paint Window frames?

  • Use a sunny day when painting your window frames and start early in the morning to allow for drying
  • Remove handles
  • Make sure you sand down the window frames slightly to allow it to close once painted.
  • Use steel wool rather than sandpaper
  • Use masking tape to avoid spilling on the glass -however even if you spill paint on the glass it is easily removed with a scraper
  • Wipe off all dust
  • Use an oil-based sealer or varnish on natural wooden frames
  • Use a waterbased enamel which dries quicker and is eco friendly
  • Apply by brush (fine bristle) or a small sponge roller
  • Remove masking tape when paint is touch-dry
  • Paint your window sill to complete the job
  • Replace handles
  • Clean brush and rollers with water when using waterbased enamel paint
  • Wrap brushes used for sealer or varnish in a sealed shopping bag over night to prevent them from drying should you carry on painting the following day

  • INSIDER TIP: Wrap brushes used for sealer or varnish in a sealed shopping bag over night to prevent them from drying should you carry on painting the following day.
